Homicide inspector Martin Stolberg from the Düsseldorf Homicide Department is a direct, straightforward person who always limits himself to the essential. Even if he sometimes appears rather abrupt, his assistants Florian Glade (Aurel Manthei) and Sofia Lechner (Victoria Mayer) admire his competence and know that their boss is always a hundred percent behind them. New in Stolberg's team is Eva Scheurer, the wife of Rudolf "Stolberg" Kowalski, in the role of the forensics specialist Dr. Hannah Voskort.
In his first case on 6 March 2009 ("The Second Chance"), chief inspector Stolberg and his team deal with the murder of an ex-convict who was just released from jail. Boris Pahlke, young in years but rich in criminal experiences, has been found stabbed to death on the street. The main suspect is the victim's girlfriend, who had made a new life for herself during Pahlke's most recent "absence."
