'Nightshift' cuts an unmistakable figure in ZDF's crime-series portfolio. The accent is less on the criminal cases that are on the agenda in each episode than on the milieu and the atmosphere in which the police get their work done during the twelve hours of the nightshift.
Desperate phone calls, emergencies, fights and even murders - it's all in a 'night's' work for these men and women. Events that cast their shadows on the police officers and affect their relationships among one another. What kind of people are they? What do they expect from life? How are they outside of their work? The viewer experiences the characters in moments of privacy as well as at work. With several officers busy with a variety of cases, the viewer can choose the team player he most strongly identifies with.
The characters evolve in the course of the cycle, keeping viewers alert and aware that their favorite figures might be about to reveal a dark side that opens up many questions ... Through many spot-on dialogues, the characters are given room to express their hopes and fears, their anger and their wit. 'Nightshift' captivates with its clean lines and clear look, but above all by its intensely human protagonists, all members of an inseparable team.
