Karin, Marla and Effi are close friends with very different jobs who get together in their spare time to form a musical trio in the style of the Andrews Sisters. They are young, cheeky and loveable - but most of all, they are broke. Their manager Albert, a former star of the music business, does his best in the face of their failure to turn up on time for the gigs in small-time clubs that he secures for them. Then out of the blue, an old friend gets in touch with Albert and explains that he needs an act for the luxury hotel he runs on Bali: the three girls are to make a star appearance as the Fabulous Sisters!
But when they get to Bali it emerges that the hotel is a dump and Albert's friend is bankrupt. Now the "sisters" have to resort to all the charm they can muster, simply to survive. But this doesn't stop Effi from falling in love with the young hotel manager Schönborn, who runs the real luxury hotel here, the Grand. It is the beginning of a love story. There are a whole host of new obstacles to be overcome, but it turns out happily in the end - and the three friends really do get the breakthrough they have always dreamt of.
