Throughout the tranquil Glotter Valley there is an air of anticipation, for a great day is coming: Dr. Benjamin Brinkmann and Sophie Schwarz, who is also a doctor, are to be married. On the eve of the wedding Benjamin‘s parents, Klaus and Christa Brinkmann, arrive from Freiburg – and Benjamin has also invited all his old friends from the Black Forest Hospital. Carsta Michaelis, the Brinkmanns‘ former housekeeper, who has agreed to help out for the occasion, has in fact helped arrange the whole thing.
Benjamin Brinkmann has followed in his father‘s footsteps and works in the Black Forest Hospital. And like his father, Benjamin always gives his patients top priority. In times like these such an approach can sometimes lead to conflict with the hospital management, since they are under considerable financial pressure and constantly have to consider the commercial viability of their policies.
It is a very curious feeling for Klaus and Christa Brinkmann, being back in the Glotter Valley. Professor Brinkmann in particular has so many memories of this vital period in his professional career. This leads him to ask what has become of Sister Hildegard, but nobody know what has become of her or where she is living now. Carsta is immediately given the task of looking for her – little imagining what mysteries this will bring to light.
But before Benjamin can lead his Sophie up the aisle there is a terrible accident, which immediately throws everyone‘s plans into turmoil. A rescue mission is mounted, and now every available doctor will be required in the Black Forest Hospital...
