'The Bridge' - the latest Nordic Noir TV-series distributed by ZDF Enterprises, has just finished airing on BBC4 with a great ratings success. Launched on 21st April, the premiere episode of 'The Bridge' went straight into the No.1 position as BBC4’s highest rated show of the year with 1.37 mio viewers in consolidated figures. The show maintained solid ratings until the last episode, doubling the BBC4 primetime-average with 849.500 viewers for Episode 9. The broadcast of the series was accompagnied by a raving press feedback, leading the "Telegraph" to name it "the latest triumph of Scandinavian Cultural Imperialism". The second season of this groundbreaking series will go into production in autumn this year.
Produced by Filmlance, Sweden and Nimbus Film, Denmark in coproduction with ZDF Enterprises, ZDF, DR and SVT, the crime series is based around the discovery of a body on the Oresund bridge, half in Denmark and half in Sweden. Two police officers one from each country with a very different skill set meet for the first time. Swedish Inspector Saga Noren, obsessed with order and logic and Martin Rhode, emphatic and affable, try to stop the truth terrorist. A killer wanting to gain public attention by the most cruel means.
It was 'The Killing' licenced by ZDF Enterprises to BBC4 that set the path for the recent success of Scandinavian crime series in the UK - leading to a BAFTA award for the best international series for 'The Killing I' in 2011 and a nomination of the second series in the same category for the upcoming BAFTA awards.
