47-year-old art restorer Rike Schroeder feels like an old woman when her gynaecologist explains that she menopause is upon her. Rike is stunned. Deep down she feels as young as ever - despite a few wrinkles. But her ex-husband Richard, a gallery owner who has just landed a blonde babe, suggests that Rike shouldn't waste any more time finding her prince. And Rike realises that he's right. There's no point denying it; she feels lonely.
Right on cue Rike meets Gen, a much younger and extremely attractive Japanese man. While Rike imagines their meeting is pure chance, in fact the whole thing has been arranged. Gen's friend Thomas is trying to find a German wife for Gen so his residence permit will be extended. Soon Rike falls head over heels in love with him, ignoring a few small danger signals. For the truth is that Gen isn't at all in love with her. He does like Rike, but his heart belongs to - Thomas.
When Richard announces that he and the blonde are to be married, Rike resolves that she and Gen will also tie the knot. She knows Gen is gay by now - which was a shock - but she is determined to keep up appearances. Gen isn't at all happy about all this, but there's no going back now - unless he wants to be deported. And then his ultra-conservative parents will learn that he is homosexual. So they both have to go through with the charade, at least until after the honeymoon in beautiful Prague. Now Thomas begins to feel pangs of jealousy - with some justification. So Thomas and Rike embark on a bitter battle to win the affections of Gen. Naturally all is fair in love and war...
