Mowgli challenges Phaona to a race – the winner to decide the loser’s fate. Should he lose, Mowgli will most certainly be ejected from the wolf pack by Phaona. It looks as if Phaona will win – until he is set upon by Shere Khan. Mowgli intervenes and trackless here khan, but during the struggle, Phaona runs on and declares himself winner. Luckily Bagheera has seen what has happened and explains the circumstances to Akela. Mowgli has shown himself to be a true wolf; Phaona has covered himself in shame.
