Ben has come home for the funeral of his father, famous author Sven Goldmann. Ben is an aspiring writer himself, and he has resolved to stay in his father’s house for the summer, in the hope of getting some work done. This will also give the reserved young man an opportunity to spend some time with his half-brother Nick again; it is many years since they had much to do with each other. Nick and Ben are complete opposites: Nick is a smart, extrovert character who charms everybody he meets. His life revolves around his real estate office, where he sells the most beautiful houses in the area for a living. And his clever approach to his clients makes him the best in the business.
The lives of both brothers are transformed when they meet Holly. This young, attractive landscape gardener has been travelling around the world every summer ever since she graduated, working in a variety of gardens as she learns her trade.
Ben finds that the oppressive weight of the past is blocking his creative powers: he can't write anything, so he decides to sell the property. But first the garden, which has been neglected for years, will have to be put in order. Holly is the one who gets the job, and like a good fairy she brings the derelict property to life with her magic powers - accompanied by her loyal dog Hudson, an English bulldog "on a diet".
Ben is enchanted by this young woman, who embodies a fascinating mixture of sensitivity and confident stability. Not realising that his brother Nick and Holly are embarking on a relationship, Ben begins to come out of his shell.
The story of these three young people and their complex relationship comes to a head when destiny lands an unexpected blow, and Nick demands the impossible from Holly…
This touching and romantic three-cornered story focuses on love, life and the need to move on.
