Dr. Robert Kolmaar, the hopeful heart surgeon and prospective senior doctor, becomes a forensic doctor. The doctor makes his "change of fronts" when a little girl becomes the victim of a major blunder by his father-in-law in an operation. From his own experience, he knows that a pathologist would never reveal malpractice by a colleague. Robert Kolmaar decides to turn his back on his father-in-law and his clinic, his shattered marriage, and his career. This change makes him a "traitor" to his professional colleagues. He has burned his bridges to his previous career.
Forensic doctors are the murder victims´ final witnesses. Only they understand the language of the dead, with which they cry out the names of their murderers. Forensic medicine is a science that assists criminal investigators, and it has many methods of discovering the perpetrator.
In this series, Ulrich Mühe plays Dr. Kolmaar with great sensitivity: He gives the dead back their dignity. At his side is a young colleague, Dr. Judith Sommer (Gesine Cukrowski) - his friend and partner in the criminal investigation department is the chief of the 2nd Homicide Commission, Joe Hoffer (Jörg Gudzuhn).
The murder cases, well researched by author Gregor Edelmann - the terrific performances of the top-notch ensemble of actors and actresses - the exciting scenes by director Bernhard Stephan - and the optical resolution by cameraman Anton Peschke make "The Final Witness" film series a great programming event.
