Since the American Revolution, black Americans have defended their country with weapons even though they did not enjoy the same rights as their white fellow soldiers for centuries. Racial segregation was the order of the day in the military until 1948. The two-part documentary “For Love of Liberty” uses original documents to retrace the eventful story of black U.S. soldiers, and tells of their dreams and hopes, their defeats and their heroic deeds.
