In Georgia’s prisons, the rules are tough. A paramilitary ethos dictates how inmates dress, walk, keep their hair, and clean their cells. But another set of rules operates beneath the administration’s: the convict code, a world of respect and retribution that separates the wolves from the sheep. Following one set of rules may mean breaking the other. As new inmates enter they must make serious choices – some with dire consequences. This first episode in a series tracking a full year in Georgia’s maximum-security prisons follows inmates and officer cadets as they are broken down and broken in to a world behind bars.
